Bulls 5th at State, Mason Champ, Dinzeo 3rd, Hagin 5th

The Bulls set a number of records at the State Tournament. Highest finish by Bloomingdale team 5th, most qualifiers 7, most still alive on last day 5, most placers 3, most 30 match winners 5. David Mason set some records himself. First two time State Champ, most wins 36, first undefeated season. Mason looked great throughout the tournament then got a little conservative in the finals winning 2-0. Rodriquiz did very little and stayed on his belly for most of the match. Joe Dinzeo set a few records of his own. Most third period wins 14, most over time wins 6, Most coaches near heart attacks to many to count. Joe got stronger as the tournament went on placing third. Robert Hagin placed 5th starting with a huge upset inthe first round then making it to the simis only to loose and have to battle his way back. Senior Travis Cochran and Freshman Nick Miles each scored team points and missed placing by only one match. Senior Eric Gardner caped of a good season by making it to the show as did Justin Diaz. This was a great team effort and most of them are coming back next year.

Times Story For the first time in school history the Bulls are regional champs. They send a record seven on to State next week. Led by Regional Champ David Mason, who made up for his loss last year. Winning it in style even with the officials taking away a pin in the finials which they latter admitted was a mistake. David handled it well only worried that the team might fall 1 point short. Joe Dinzeo, Justin Diaz and Travis Cochran placed second.Wrestling great until the finials when all three seemed a little tired and dropped close matches. The most outstanding performance of the tournament may have came from the youngest Bull Nick Miles who lost hist first match then battled back with 5 pins in a row to place third. He became the first Freshmen to go to State and and now has 24 wins and 20 pins. Robert Hagin and Senior Eric Gardner placed fourth and are at the show. All the Bulls scored team points and we had many pins making this truly a team Victory.

For only the second time in school history the Bulls are district champs. They won it going away putting eight wrestlers in the finials and sending 12 on to regions. The Bulls Scored 192.5 points to Venice's 148.5 and Manatee's 141.5. In a display of team unity all team members dyed their hair blond then team leaders Dinzeo and Mason took it one step up and dyed theirs Red ( ok so it looked pink) The Bulls Champs were David Mason 119 The anti Cocharan 140 Justin Diaz 160 and Joe Dinzeo 189. Mason started it out by scoring a pin over Manatees D'Agostino after dominating the match. Evil Cochran took revenge for his twins lost to Plant City's Statton also scoring a pin. Diaz then proceed in workman fashion to win by a score of 7-2. As always DInzeo decided to bring the crowd to life going into double overtime before scoring with just 3 ticks left to take the win over Liakokos. The crowd was on it's feet for this one chanting the name of their wrestler. This is Joe's 8th third period win for the year. Having a great tournament but falling a little short in the finals were Robert Hagin, Ryan Ford, Dan Butierris and Eric Gardner. The coaching staff was very happy for seniors Dan and Eric. Taking third were Gabe Bartolomie, Chris Curry and Chris Huber. Freshman Nick miles placed fourth. Only two Bulls will not make the trip to Regions freshmen Bobby smith and Derik Sabi both lost close matches to be eliminated from the event. They will be ready for next year.

Bloomingdale was 2nd behind Brandon at the Western Conference Tournament. The top eight wrestlers in each weight class were invited from the 19 Hillsbourgh county High Schools.Thirteen Bulls were invited and all placed 6th or better. The new format was a great success marred only by the cheapness of the county who elected not to give out out individual awards. These kids work hard all year yet the county thinks spending $ 100 for awards is not appropriate. The Bulls Underclassmen were on top of their game as three sophomores and 2 Juniors made it to the finals. Four came away with first. three by pin. Robert Hagin, David Mason and Justin Diaz won by fall. Joe Dinzeo had it a little tougher but won a hard fought 4-2 victory. Gabe Bartolomie had a great tournament but came up short to place second. Seniors Travis Cochran and Dan Buttries placed third and fourth respectively.

Bulls complete season 11-1

The Bulls drooped their first match of the season to Brandon 44-22. Hagin, Mason, Bartalomie, Gardner and Dinzeo won for the Bulls. All but Gardner will be returning next year. They will be joined my this Years JVs who handing the JV Eagles their first lost in 11 year.

Mason is ranked 20th in the nation.

USA Wrestling Mag. ranks David as the 20th best 112 pounder in the nation. Joe Dinzeo is special mention at 189

Bulls 73 Hillsbourgh 0

The Bulls put on a takedown clinic against the Dogs setting a team record with 57. Derik Saibi Recorded his first win of the season as he went crazy to perserve the shut out. 100 wings are waiting.

Bulls 43 Durant 24

The Bulls looked good against 6-3 Durant With everyone doing as expected. All the big Guns pined and Durant was surprised as they tried to duck Mason and Cochran only to run into Smith and Gabe. Bobby wrestled well in a close match 9-5 against a senior with only one lose and then Gabe destroyed Gonser. The only down side was that we gave up three pins.

Captains are Champs

The Bulls three captains led they way for the team to place third at the Springsted Tournament. Robert Hagin took second, Cury third and Gabe fourth. Curry took a big step forward loosing only to last years 5th place state placer. The team made a major move up by advancing 4 of 7 to the finals. Hagin was over matched by the biggest 5 pounder in the state but may have grown an inch or two due to the banana split. It was then the coaches turn to get a bit older. David Mason was behind to a good Matt Broker (second at the Sunshine Open) David scored a takedown with under a 50 seconds remaining then put on a riding clinic for the win. Travis Cochran made his first appearance in the finals. He decided to make the coaches sweat even more as he waited until less than one tick remained to score a reversal to win.Travis showed some guts to keep after it. Joe Dinzeo was forced to take it to overtime too make his match even more exciting. After going behind 2-0 Joe hit a great granby for a reversal to tie the match then pulled out a double leg for the OT victory. This was a revenge match with Tuttle.

The Bulls look Impresive

With two good wins over Plant City and East Bay. Several Bulls beat very good foes. Starting with Joe Dinzeo who defeated Plant Cities, Phillip Marshal (ranked number 2 in the State).Robert Hagin also beat a ranked Plant City opponet. The entire Team looked good against East Bay Most impressive were Bobby Smith, Dan Buttries, Gabe Bartalomie, Eric Gardner and Huber. We are coming around our young guys are starting to perform. Bulls Third at Mita
The Bulls had a rockey start and a poor showing in the simis but battled back with good team depth to take third at the Mita. We were in fith Place after the first day and only had 5 wrestlers in the simi round Sat. Morning. We were counting on at least 3 advancing to the finials however only Mason was able to win. Robert Hagin wrestled a good two periods then ran out of gas loosing to the tournament champ 4-0. Bob then lost a tough 4-2 match with East Bays Dail to take 4th. Bob Did show that he can go with any one in the state. David Mason, perhaps inspired by Countryside coach Dave Frayers pre-match statement that his kid was flat out the best wrestler in the weight class, pined a very good wrestler then went on to claim the championship and the tournaments Outstanding wrestler award.David was not happy with the way he wrestled perhaps the fact that he was sick as a dog had something to do with it. He again showed that he will do what it takes to win. Travis Cochran saw a 4 point lead melt away in the third as he lost by 1 he then came back to place third for the second year in a row. He scored some big team points for us with 4 pins. Gabe was some what of a surprise making it to the simi but he is getting better day by day. You could see his confidence grow match by match. He had a great tournamet and plaed 3rd. Joe Dinzeo wrestling in the tournaments second toughest weight class got craddled and cought for a quick 2 back points. He lost by 1. He then went into overtime and puled out a good win to place third.

We had a great wrestle back Finals round freshman Nick Miles had a good tournament placing 6th and missing 4th by about a second. Travis Ford took 5th in a tough weight class. Justin (Bulldog) Diaz placed third the hard weigh working his way back from a first round lose. He pined the same gay in the con finals. It was not a bad start but we have some work to do if we want to stop Manatee who looked great from winning the district.

Dec 3
Bulls 48 Gather 21

The Young Bulls with only one senior met the Cowbows and prevaled. We let them score to many points but we are getting better each day. Robert Hagin got it started with a pin, Then Freshman Nick Miles had a tough match but pulled it out at the end Nick is in shape. Pinkerton kept his perfect record alive. Smith then lost the first match for the bulls his lack of mat time showed. But he is going to be a good one. Mason domanated a good Lasceri finished with a pin. Ford had a big lead got cought but surivied with a close dec. Both Gabe and curry took a major step forward wrestling very tough matches. Gabe won Curry lost but looked better this kid keeps improving. Young got thrown to the wolves in his first start having the assignment of slowing Reber down he held him off for a period before getting pined. Mallon also looked better in his hard fought loss and is working hard. Joe Dinzeo already has half a many take downs as he had for the season last year and is also becoming a pinner. Our new hevey weight Hubber went out strong but got tossed early in his first varsity start. Watch out for the mat it can be tricky

Nov 30 1999
Bulls 71 Leto 12

The most exciting thing that happened in this match was that Leto arrived. After bus problems the match started 2o min. late but finished early as the Bulls domanated until Heavy weight where they saw young Darik Saibi get pined. but he will learn.

Nov 23 1999
Bulls 58 Chamberlain 12

The Bulls looked like the young team they are in an unimpressive win over a depleted Chamberlain, who forfeited five weights. Freshman Nick Miles got things started right with a 58 second pin in is first HS. match. State contenders David Mason and Travis Cochran recorded falls and Justin Diaz scored a Major dec. against a good opponent. We were clearly not yet in top form or shape. Coach Tipton stated "we are happy for the win but have a lot to work on".

Nov 19 1999

The Bulls won the Pre-Season Classic defeating both Orlando Evans and Lyman in hard fought matches. The Bulls were led by 103 pounder Robert Hagin who pined both of his opponents. David Mason and Justin Diaz also won both of there matches. Freshman Nick Miles looked very good going 1 and 1 with two good foes. We have a long way to go but this was a good start

Nice story on David Mason in the Times
Team has first wrestle offs and wrestle-a-thon is going strong>

Nov. 2 1999

The second day of practice saw no one drop from the team after loosing 2 the first day. This is a very though sport and not for everyone. Thanks to the Dinzeos for hosting our parents meeting. The group was small but willing to work. The wrestle-a-thon was discussed as well as general team info. It was good to see many new faces as the parents of our new freshmen get involved. Mrs. Dinzeo was rewarded for her hard work this past season by being elected to the Postion of president. Mr. Dinzeo but in a plug for all parents to join the Bulls Boster Club. It was reported that we made $495 for our work at the football game. Thankyou for coming out and working.

Floyd tried to keep the numbers down but 45 Bulls including 15 freshmen showed up for the first meeting of the season. The coaching staff gave a brief overview of the upcoming season while the team munched on a few snacks. The turn out was great considering the last min. change due to Floyd. If you missed it see a coach to get the info you need.
